Peter;

Thanks for building and maintaining this site, what a find! I've activated a les.net account and will likely install X-Lite as you've now done. Do I need any other part of the puzzle to route calls to my PC from the les.net account?

Reply from Peter: As long as you configure X-Lite with the proper les.net credentials, you should be OK. I think there's even a guide at les.net on using it with X-Lite.

Gizmo5 is not available anymore (acquired and closed down by google for now).
And a lot of time has passed - do you mind writing an update?

I know how to setup the outgoing calls with les.net and pbxes (for my android) - but I have NO idea how to setup a DID number.

It would be great if you could post a guide.
Do email me if you decide to write one :-)

Reply from Peter: I moved on to a voip.ms + X-Lite (for Windows) combination, which has worked out quite well. I'm hoping to write something up about that at some point, although that might not directly related to your Android!

for pure VOIP (not the private labeled systems Vonage, Cogeco et al)
I recommend Call Centric you can get a number for most Cdn cities cost is $1.95 per month (US$) You pay for all calls - and buy credits for 5, 10 or $15 cost per minute is about 2.1 (Cdn) cents. It has all the usual features and works with a variety of Soft phones like the Xten (counterpath).

I've been a customer of les.net for 3 years and the service has been great - I've had no problems with it, either incoming or outgoing. As for softphones I"ve recently used X-Lite and I'm very happy with it.

Incoming calls have been fine with les.net, although I haven't used it that much. I've started exploring outgoing and incoming calls with voip.ms; call quality is always good, although they took quite a while to port my number, and there was a recent hiccup whereby call forwarding wasn''t working properly (it is now fixed). I use a hardware phone with voip.ms, as well as the programs X-Lite and SJphone when I''m on my Windows laptop.

Hi Peter and everyone else

How has your experience been with LES.net?

I have been using LES.net for 6-8 months now for outgoing calls.
I will say that perhaps 1/3 to 1/2 of my calls have had problems.
I have had many problem tickets. The next day the call is fine, but a week later. it acts up again. Recently I am having calls where they can hear me fine, but I hear their voice cutting in and out, missing parts of the words spoken.

I just recently was offered a free trial for outgoing calls for a month from Skype. Running on the same computer, I have had no problems.

I still have a balance on LES.net, but I am seriously considering Skype at about $3.50/month for outgoing calls.

Don''t get me wrong, LES.net prices can not be beat, and they are pretty responsive for tech support. I would like to support them, but the call quality issues have to go....

I was thinking of configuring an older Kubuntu (Unix) machine I have to test LES.net, I just never got around to it.... If I do, I will leave a message.

Anyone have a suggestion for good softphone software for Kubuntu?

Peace and Thanks!

i signed up with gizmo and was given a trial use of the their softphone for a few minutes and there seemed to me a bit of a delay for voice to be transmitted from me to the person i called and back.

i was wondering if anyone has noticed any issues with delay when using les.net or gizmo?

I use Yahoo Voice PhoneIn (but they only have US phone numbers) for unlimited incoming calls at US$2.99/mo. I can forward the calls to any phone number which costs 1 cent US/min.

For outgoing calls, I paid ~CAD$25 for one whole year of SkypeOut to US/Canada.

For outgoing calls to phones in other countries outside North America, I use VoipCheap - really cheap!!!

For fax, I use Faxaway - US$1/mo maintenance. Costs me about 11 cents US per page that I fax.
