I have been with Koodo as a customer for almost two years now, and I find exactly the opposite. When I signed up for it as my second cell phone ever, I had heard horror stories about cell phones easily exceeding the base plan cost, plus I'd had 2 months with Bell where my $45 plan cost almost 200/month. So right from the start with Koodo, I got onto ALL plans I felt I would use, such as 5 favorite friends, more daytime minutes, etc. I took on services of $60. a month but all my uses ALWAYS fit into it, and what I actually rave about Koodo to people is exactly that – there are NO surprises on my bill, ever. Sometimes they text me perks like "for an extra $2. a month, you can have long distance across Canada (maybe it was for the U.S. too?)for a paltry 5 cents a minute. I ciouldn't wait to answer YES. And it was true, night or day, I have never paid more than 5 cents a minute.
My advise would be review what your extra charges on those bills are typically for, and make sure your usage trends are covered in whatever plan you get, no matter who it is with. It may sound like more to pay 60 a month rather than 35 but in the long run, it is much cheaper than the impromptu cost of always using more than your plan covers.

PS oh ya plus my tab went down exactly the way they said it would and my wonderful flip phone that I still love, is paid for, just by using my plan, no extra costs. I am happy with Koodo.
