WordPress 2.6 comes with the ability to move wp-config.php or the wp-content folder out of their default locations. Therefore, this version of the plugin adds a setting $cas_wpconfig so that users can manually input put either the absolute or relative path to wp-config.php.

Download the 3.0.7 release on the plugin page, as always:

Installed on my site with the automatic upgrade function.
Now all I have are "broken images" on the site where the captcha should be.

I advise users to think before upgrading an installation.

My best guess given this information is that the automatic upgrade overwrote all of the settings you had in the plugin file.

Deleted the plugins folder, installed manually. Now working ok.

Two possible reasons for failure:
1) Automatic update does not store font files as binary
2) Automatic update uses incorrect folder naming? I noticed the name of the folder was not 'custom-anti-spam' but was "peters-custom-anti-spam-image"... not sure if that could be an issue.

Wasn't settings in the file... I went through that again and reset them all to what I had... my best guess is the way it stores the font files.

Thanks for the details. Yes, I would recommend that you manually upgrade the plugin instead of using the automatic service. The folder name is fine -- as long as the file names remain the same, you can actually name the folder anything that you want.

Same for me - the automatic upgrade broke it and I had to remove all directories and then re-install manually which fixed it.
