Download the original Jezzball

First published on June 3, 2006

The original Jezzball

Remember this game? I think I last saw it on Windows 95 (I could be wrong). Now it has all but disappeared. Anyway, try and eliminate space on the playing area without getting hit by the bouncing balls.

For those with Windows XP who are having troubles, it might be because XP has a built-in zip viewer. Try unzipping all of the files to a separate folder before running Jezzball.

Hi, I thought my dreams had been answered – like all, I want the original Jezzball in the worst way. It downloaded fine, unzipped fine, but will not work with 64-bit technology unless someone knows a secret.

If it becomes available for 64-bit, please let me know. Thank you.

  40. ET says:

For those wondering how to downloads this, just click on the jezzball photo

  41. laura says:

THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Old school jezzball is so much better than all of these new versions out there. Great for procrastination, too :). There’s something strangely satisfying about boxing those bouncing balls in.

    Thank you very much!

And, for all those xp-ers who can’t get the jezzball to work– I just created a new folder and moved all of the files into that folder. Then you can play! It’s as simple as that.

  42. Bank says:

Thank you so much, i find the original JEZZBALL for a long time.

  43. Dana says:

Thank you for making this game available! I was so excited when I found your site. I downloaded, unzipped the files, and started to play JEZZBALL (YAY!), but the movement of the balls was choppy. They’ll move a couple of spaces, freeze, then move a couple of more spaces. I read the notes on your site about Windows XP, thinking maybe there would be something listed, then I remembered that my husband installed Windows Vista! I don’t know if this is something that will be able to be fixed or not. Does anyone else have this problem? or is it just me as usual?

  44. Candi says:

I looked for this game forever. thanks!!!!!!!!

  45. kirsten Vincent says:

  46. Ericka Eubanks says:

I had spent hours searching on the web to find this original jezzball game. Everyone offered it, but when it came to downloading them all they had to offer was the imposters. I even looked under Classic Jezzball, The Original Jezzball, Old Jezzball, and all the sites had them but with the work “like” attached on the end. I finally found your website and it popped up so easy. I appreciate someone taking the time in putting the actual, Classic, Original, Old Jezzball on their site for others to download. Thankyou so much.

  47. hannah. says:

thank you so so so so so much.
    omg you are like amazing.

  55. Amanda says:

I’m assuming this will not work on Vista… like many things. Any way around this?

  56. Peter says:

I don’t have Vista so I don’t know. However, if you look at a comment made on August 9th, someone with Vista said that it works…

  87. David K. Wright says:

I used to play this back in the days of Win 95. Maybe the greatest little game since "Qix", which I’ve never seen on a PC, only on one of those big old consoles they used to have in cafes.

  88. ariel says:

hey I would like to know if you have a pocket pc version of the game which I can download

  89. ~Sweet 1~ says:

OMG! i absolutley love this game! i used to play it a long time ago on my old windows computer from a floppy disc and havent seen it sence we got the new computer! thx sooo much!

  90. Jurisrachel says:

thankee-sai. you’re wonderful. works like a charm (though why anyone would use now-working-fine sound effects is beyond me).

  91. Justin Verted says:

For the record, it’s not Windows Vista that has the problem running the game. As was stated in a comment near the top, those of us running 64-bit systems can’t currently run the game. Some people with Windows Vista are still running on a 32-bit system. Hence why some people say "I have Vista and it works fine." Jezzball runs in 16-bit. The 64-bit versions of Vista are compatible with most anything if you know how to work it, but I’m sure no one thought to include compatibility for 16-bit games. :P But that being said, even Windows XP 64-bit that came out recently wouldn’t be able to run this program. I’m hoping there’s a fix for this. I’ll keep my eyes peeled.

    P.S. Jezzball=themostamazinggameintheworld

  92. federico says:

tons of thanks. i lost this game when i lost my laptop 4 years ago.
i wonder where i can get the real rockford, blockout and pipe dream
    THANKS YOU

  93. Chris says:

I get an error saying "The Win 16 Subsystem has insufficent resources to continue running. Click on OK, close your applications, and restart your machine." every time I run Jezzball. I’m on XP SP3. Thoughts?

  94. Chris says:

Found my own answer: for anyone else who has these problems:

I got windows xp and nothing happens when i open the exe-file for jezzball. I see the hourglass for a second and then it disapears and nothing happens

  101. jess says:

is it just me or do the balls start out moving faster than i remember?? i know they get faster the longer you take…but i remember them moving slower to begin with…maybe i’m just out of practice..

  102. gan says:

So many yrs ago, I bought an old Tandy desktop at a yardsale…it had Windows 3.1 on it, and Jezzball: the original game.
When the computer played out I thought I had lost Jezzball for good.
I appreciate having it again. Level 13 is as far as I’ve been so far…..

  103. chris says:

Wont work with Vista 64 bit.
Anyone know of a work around?

  104. stcyr says:

To get these old games to work, you must have four files (included in older versions of Windows) placed in the same folder as the games:

    VBRUN100.DLL
    VBRUN300.DLL
    WEPUTIL.DLL
    WEP4UTIL.DLL

  105. john says:

i downloaded jezzball, extracted it, then downloaded those four files from dll-files.com, extracted them, and droppped the extracted files into my jezzball folder, and it doesnt work

  106. Al says:

Cool game that I played many years ago and have been looking for. Thanks. Newer versions just aren’t the same.

  107. Ray says:

I tried it and it worked at first…but then i realized that whenever I clicked the mouse the game would glitch and stop and start making me mess up…is there anyway to fix this??

  108. Robert says:

Just thought I’d let you know that this works extremely smoothly under WINE on linux. (Ubuntu 8.10, Vanilla)

That and you’ve become the second link when one searches for jezzball.exe from google.

Thank you for providing the download, I just acquired a Windows 3.1 laptop that had this old gem on it, but no way to transfer it.

  109. karla says:

I am trying to download jezzball to my computer desktop but I’m have alot of probelms can you help me? I love this game and tierd of trying and not getting anywhere with what I doing.

  110. victor says:

Thanx to u I played this cool game after a gap of some 9-10 years. It brought me the good old memories.

  111. sam says:

just the DLL files, they were dated 1991, 18 yrs old game, but still fun to play with

  112. Daniel Tubbs says:

I just downloaded this and I have vista and did not have any problems, and it lets me save high scores

  113. Andy says:

my dad just bought a new computer with vista’s 64 bit system. so this game doesnt work until i can find a way around it. ill keep checking back though.

  114. PYoung says:

At long last I’m reunited with an old flame…Jezzball. It’s as though we’d never said goodbye. She looks as good as ever and still makes me smile the same way she used to. And who said you can’t find true love on the internet?

  115. Jackie says:

Where can I download it for free?
I’ve looked everywhere, and all I find is Jezzball Deluxe…
    Where’s the original!!???
    Thanks!

  122. Nancy says:

Andy, I am in the same boat as your dad– installed my one-true-love, JezzBall, to a new computer with Vista installed. I can’t get JezzBall to run to save my life. What will I do??? I keep JezzBall up and running all day long, slinging balls around anytime I have a spare 15 seconds– usually while waiting for something to download. The habit is deeply ingrained and I want it back!

Please do let us know if you find a solution. I will love you forever. ;-)

    Thanks!

  123. Tim says:

thanks so much for having this!!! Countless hours of time killed as a kid playing this game.

  124. pliku says:

i’ve been looking for this game about 5 years, just found today in 2009!

  125. SC_1 says:

Thx, it worked – I am under the weather and that is my excuse de our, lol I do not suppose you have Tetris or could tell me whey my original files do not work. I have the box et al. And duplcated them from that ancient 1.5 diskette series (2 maybe?).

Thnk you and THANKS for the game. I once made it past 20 million tho I doubt I can do that now without developing carpel tunnel and I finally m gainfully employed and NEED to use my hands, lol

Btw, the top score I found on Jezzball.com is 274,298,388 – way past what I can ever do, lol (Tho now I will try again, lol)

  126. Karen says:

I’m clicking on the link just about the jezz ball screen at the top of the page, and it acts as though It’s downloading… but i can’t find where it’s downloaded to… i’ve searched the c drive for jezzball.exe and it finds nothing. what am i doing wrong?

Reply from Peter: Right-click the image and choose “Save Target As” or “Save Link As”. Then you can specify exactly where to save it.

  127. Kostka says:

I’ve got Vista 32 bit, and now it works!
You have to right click and select Property–>Compatibility –>Compatibility mode and change it in "Windows 95".

I really love this game, "we" were born in the same year : D

  128. Heather says:

Thanks for sharing! This game brings back some great memories. Lots of frustration but none the less I had a great time playing it.

  129. akshay says:

Thanks a lot. I didn’t have to search for the game for long. I was a small kid the last time i played it. Some 7-8 years ago.Its also one of the first PC games I have played. long live JezzBall! :-)

  130. Maureen says:

Thanks, Peter. I have been looking for this game forever and I couldn’t remember the name. I have also located a Verbatim floppy which was included with my first PC and that had Black jack, Ski game, solitaire and Taipei. It still works. I have had fun playing all of them

  131. Mike says:

I wanted this game for my 64 bit machine, but it doesn’t work. Is there a 64 bit version out there?

  132. laura says:

just got a new mac. tried to move jezzball (previously downloaded from your site, love it!) but it didnt work. tried to download it again from here and doesn’t work.

can you get this jezzball to work on macs?

Reply from Peter: Sorry, I don’t think there is a Mac version of Jezzball, although you could do some Google searching for Windows emulators for the Mac.

How to win at Jezzball and lose minimal lives: Don’t know if this is common knowledge but I happened upon it myself. I make my columns vertical by the way typically starting in bottom lower left hand corner. Anyway to make a column without losing a life make sure the mouse arrow is sitting on top of the black grid you wish to align with. Arrow pointed obviously in vertical(up & down)direction. Hit the pause preferably the F3 button to briefly pause game. Necessary to do this for it to work. Line your mouse arrow up with grid with which you wish to start the wallbuilder. Simultaneously unpause game with F3 and hit left mouse click button. Your arrow will start and you will not lose a life. Obviously as long as no other balls are in general vicinity. Will only work with balls coming toward you and not away. To get the skill down especially try in slow mode and not fast mode till your comfortable with it. Don’t believe this has been thrown out their yet. By the way, don’t mistakenly hit F2 since it’s right next door it will make you have to restart your game. Thank you I had to get the above secret off my chest for others to enjoy Jezzball and reach 49 and infinity without losing but minimal lives and racking up mega points to boot. Bye

Thanks, I ‘m happy to play Jezzball, it reminds me another life i had during years with another girl called Angelique in France.

    Any advice appreciated.

    John

Reply from Peter: Unfortunately, you would need a 32-bit operating system or some sort of 32-bit emulation mode to run it.

  147. James says:

Thanks! Just downloaded to play on Linux via Wine and it works like a charm.

  148. Jeff says:

Just downloaded and doesn’t work on Windows 7. Thanks anyway and I’ll look for the fix. Not giving up!

  160. bobdamnit says:

Kickass! Works perfect on Windows 7 32-bit. Added link to Jezzball in the Games folder and can now run it from a link right inside the games folder. Sometimes though, the balls get kind of laggy, but as soon as you notice it, it goes away.

I spent many hours of my youth wasting homework hours playing this game on DOS 6.2, and then later on Windows 3.1 for Workgroups.

Many thanks for bringing this back. (I kinda laughed at the first comment date, considering its now 4 years later and this is still going strong!)

  161. Libby says:

  165. Nish says:

    Hello everyone,

I am really looking forward to playing the ORIGINAL jezzball and not the other poser Jezzball games that are out there for download. I was wondering if anyone had found any solution for Jezzball running on Windows Vista 64-bit computers. I’m really looking forward to playing this game, but I don’t seem to be able to play it on a 64-bit Vista comp. Any help?

    Thank you guys!

  166. Roger says:

Jezzball rocks. It’s so addicting. I Had it on a win98 computer I had inherited and just kept transferring to new computers.

  167. Ruby says:

Thank you for having this game. I played it off and on in 1995 while I was in hospital (bad injuries from accident). Playing it kept my mind occupied between surguries. Misplaced my game disk and thought the game lost forever. Lots of remakes but nothing can replace the original game. Thanks again

  168. Laura says:

I can’t get past "winzip". It says I have to purchase Winzip in order to open Jezzball. (My trial period is over – I don’t even remember using it).

I have windows xp. Is there any alternative to unzipping this?

Reply from Peter: Windows XP is supposed to open zip file natively. You can also do a search for free unzip programs such as this one.

  169. Joyce Becker says:

I am so happy to have found this game it has given me so much pleasure in the past and I want to thank you so much for giving me the chance to play again.

Thank you! I played jezzball on my parents really old computer but then they got a different computer and now i found this! thank you! (again)

  172. alan says:

I use to play this game years ago. I wound up being able to win with 50 balls moving around. I just stopped playing because I had maxed out.

  173. Doreen says:

I have been trying to find the original Jezzball for ages and am so pleased I found it at last. I had it on my first computer in 1997 but couldn’t transfer it when I upgraded.

  174. huntyr says:

it wont run under my vista..

    any suggestions??

  175. Jason Radebaugh says:

huntyr, I can give you the starting point but I don’t know how to do it myself. You need to simulate windows xp 32 bit on vista since vista is 64 bit. The game should work if you can do this. Check some online forums, I’m sure the information is there.
to the author of this site, thanks for the awesome game as it was hard to find. It’s a wonder they can’t make anything quite as good as the original.

  176. angie says:

    any news on the Windows 64-bit problem….it says I need a 32-bit :(

  177. robbie says:

I can’t play this on my Windows 7. Is there a way or am I unable to play?

  178. mads says:

Wow have found the classic Jezzball!! Thanks a ton for sharing :-)
btw it even works on Windows 7, 32 bit.
    Download the zip
unzip all the files to a folder
right click the JEZZBALL.exe and create a shortcut
    drag the shortcut to desktop
    ready to run !!!!!! yey!!

    Mads

  179. Induline says:

I love you, I love you, I love you.
Thank you so much for this.

  180. Ryan says:

I cannot get the game to install. I get the same error message about the wep4util.dll file thing. I’m not even sure how to do the unzip thing. Can anyone give me step-by-step instructions on getting this game downloaded and going?

    Thank you!

  181. Judy says:

Yeah, Peter, I’m kinda glad to find it, too. Just as sad as everyone else, I guess x Anyway, the "original" that I knew, probably before everybody else’s time, was played using the up/down/left/right keys. It was slightly different, too, I recall, and much more challenging. Does anybody else remember this version?

  182. Betté says:

How can this game be run on a new Windows 7 with 64 bit. Jezzball uses 32 bit and even unzipping the game will not work. Help. I have the original game on floppy disk and have been playing the game sense 1997. Its great.

  183. Jeffrey says:

I noticed that this version of the game does not include the little scream that the original game made upon the completion of a level. Is there a way you could put that in?

  184. Rajesh says:

    Hi Peter,

I used to tell my children that I had this marvellous game on a PC I used many years back but I wasn’t able to find it. I had lost all hopes of finding the original Jezzball, and honestly did not even try to find it for past 4-5 years. I think I was destined to find it and that’s why I tried again last sunday after a gap of so many years & found it here. Thanks a lot, you are GREAT.

    Best regards,

    Rajesh

  185. cristina torres says:

  186. Peter says:

Peter, thanks for the upload. What should one google to find an emulator to make a 16-bit game work on a 64-bit PC, such as Windows 7. Have you been successful in this area? Thanks in advance.

Reply from Peter: I have the same problem on my 64-bit Windows 7, and have not yet found an easy workaround. I’d be curious to hear about any solutions.

  187. Gabriel says:

I just love this game. I have played this in my Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate using the xpmode, but it just doesn’t play well. I still play it in my old xp machine. I wanted to get rid my old pc, but I need it to play jessball and other old games. I wish someone with the know how would rewrite it to play well in Window 7 64, exactly like it does on XP.

  188. Nicola says:

    My other half just got a new cell phone (an HTC Inspire), and something about playing the game "Teeter" that comes on it, reminded me of when I used to play Jezzball. Of course "Whatever happened to Jezzball?" was our next question, answered relatively easily by you, Peter. Thank you so much. Maybe I’ll even install it on his computer later –after I play a few more times ;>}

  189. Petra Fischer says:

I play one jezzball game every morning. Gets my brain moving. But since yesterday I can’t open the jezzball application. Computer tells me that "Windows cannot complete the extraction." Why not now if it has worked perfectly for years? What can I do?

  190. Mike says:

Great news for us people with an Android phone, a game called "JezzBall Classic" was released just the other day and it is *exactly* like the original JezzBall!

Now I can play JezzBall any time I want, no more boring bus rides for me! I remember getting the game from this page a few months ago and thought I would share my discovery with you guys.

Here’s a link to the game on the market. Check out those screenshots and tell me that doesn’t look like the real deal. :)

  191. Lucy says:

Count me in as one of the many disappointed: 64-bit sucks. I frequently do a full back up – not just recently created or modified files, so when the computer dies, I can restore stuff – like Jezzball – to my new computer. I haven’t been without this game as long as many of you have, but, by gum, this new 64-bit PC won’t play the old games. I also miss Chip’s Challenge.

  192. Suzie says:

Excellent! I love this game. So glad I came across your website. Thanks for the free download. Played for an hour tonight!!

  193. michael says:

Does anyone know where I can this for Max OS X?

  194. BlueCreeper says:

Windows has Zip viewing inside, but it’s recommended to install an archiver (in process it will set ZIP to itself).

  195. Linda says:

Have played Jezzball many many times a day for years and years. This senior citizen has been ‘forced’ to stop using my Windows 2000 computer and go to Windows 7. However, seems I can NOT play Jezzball on my new computer! Is there any way I can overcome this problem? Please know I am really not computer-savvy and this problem is driving me nuts. Have spent innumerable hours trying to get my "old" games to work on Windows 7. Any help would be appreciated.

… and before anyone suggests that I try a clone … been there, done that. I like the OLD, ORIGINAL Jezzball. I’m old, and like old things! Thanks in advance. — Linda

  196. Katie says:

    Peter, I need help!
PLEASE find a way for this to work on Windows 7! This is one of the best games ever, and I really appreciate you putting it up for anyone to download like this, but it just won’t work with this system!! Please let me, and everyone else with this problem, know if there’s anything that you’ve found to fix this problem! Thank you,
    Katie

  197. Viny says:

    Thanks for the post!
It works only on Windows 7 x86 (32-bit). x64 (64-bit) users must use MS Virtual PC to emulate a compatible OS.

    Try at: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx

  198. Lindsey says:

I too, spent a long time looking for this game. However, when I went to download the file, it downloaded just about everything but jezzball. It managed to change several of my personal settings and took over 45 minutes for me to go through and uninstall each file and reset my own. I would not recommend downloading this.

Reply from Peter: Sorry to hear. I’ve double-checked the download hosted on this site and do not see any problematic files. Are you sure it was from here?

  199. Nancy says:

How do I download this game? I tried downloading 7-zip but it only opens my document folder after I downloaded.

  200. posh says:

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATT?????????????????? I LOVE THIS GAME SO MUCH I HAVEN’T PLAYED IT IN YEARS!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU SOOO MUCH I WILL PLAY THIS FOR EVERY DAY OF THE REST OF MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!

  201. Mike says:

Yes – Jezzball was and is great. Works well in a real virtual environment, not that well in MS’s XPMode.
Just a little trivia for you all, when you are down to your last life, and you are not ready to end the game, the cheat to finish the level you’re at is: shift + control + F12! You will not get any bonus points for that round, but you will be advanced to the next level, safely!

    Enjoy – and remember .. shift + control + F12 enjoy.

  202. janey says:

does this work for macs because i cant figure it out
    thanks

Reply from Peter: Not without installing a Windows emulator.

  203. Brent says:

Is there any way to get this running on windows 7

  204. Casi says:

im having a problem getting jezzball to work on my windows 7 64bit computer and i have done everything that i can think of by placing the items in a new folder to to trouble shooting a compatibility for it and nothing work is there anyway that it can work on my computer?

  205. Srini says:

    wonderful game

  206. DJ says:

hahahahaha……. ok, probably no one will believe this. At the start of this thread someone asked "Jezzball is amazing. What are the origins of its name?"
I do not know for sure, but about 20 years ago I was visiting my relatives, and on their computer they had this game in DOS version….. I forget the name. My daughter was just getting into computers, so I went into DOS and renamed the game "Jezball" to catch her interest. Why? My name is Jez. It was those days when games were liberally "shared", so I’m guessing my relatives continued that practice of "sharing" as I never changed the name back. I never looked at the game again on their computer, but……….
About 10 years later, I found it on a random internet search for Jez. Now, I’m not sure if I really had anything to do with it, and I really can’t remember if I added the extra "z" at the time, but I do remember renaming it for my daughter. You may not believe it, but how else would this game come up with that name. :)

  207. Jill says:

Hi Peter, I have been playing Jezz Ball for a long time I am 82yrs old and use it to keep my brain and hands active – my daughter has just given me a new computer with "64bit"so the old version of Jezz Ball does not work can you help and if so send me a link please

    Thank you very much, Robert

  215. porkchop says:

I think the only way the original will work on windows 8 or better will be if someone rewites the game. It was wrote for a 32bit system and can’t be recognized by the new windows

For those with 64bit Windows…. I installed Oracle’s Virtualbox to run older software like Jezzball. It is free and it works. Under Virtualbox I run Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 32bit. There are other similar sofwares like Virtualbox but I haven’t bothered to try those.

  219. Josephine Burrell says:

I played this game years ago, and loved it. I have windows 10, and no-matter what I click on, it will not download. Other things come up to be downloaded. I DON’T WANT anything else. Just the original jezz-ball.
I am getting very angry and frustrated. Help me please.
    Josephine.

  220. Jason says:

It says I have to have a 32 bit to work it. Please help.

  221. Jody Thornton says:

For those wanting to run this on a 64-bit version of Windows, you need to run DOSBox, and install a licensed Windows 3.1. There is a link somewhere, that has a downlload of this game, using a pre-configured DOSBox setup. You just run the game inside a window.

  222. Rachael Boneck says:

    Hello Peter!

I don’t know if you’re still monitoring the responses here, but if you’re a fan of old games I thought I would offer up my copies of Dangerous Dave or Lemmings! Email me if you’d like them and feel free to post them on your website. I’m still figuring out DOSBox to try and play them though; it’s been too long!

Reply from Peter: I’d be happy to post them if they’re not available elsewhere. However, are these the same games here? Dangerous Dave and Lemmings

  223. Mary says:

I cannot download JezzBall. I played it yesterday but today I can’t get it. I really like this game.

  224. Philip says:

To run this on Windows 7, install Windows XP Mode / Virtual PC, and it runs in XP, same as my Civilization 2

  225. Nick says:

It’s complicated, but https://github.com/otya128/winevdm is the solution to running 16-bit Windows games like these on Windows 10 64-bit. Works great once set up :)
