Long distance Charges?

I was thinking about purchasing a koodo phone. Is receiving text messages as big of a problem with koodo as i hear it is?
My boyfriend lives in USA and I want to be able to receive texts from him--its a cheap means of communication.
Also, does it cost to receive calls long distance? If he calls me from USA does it cost me to receive the call if he calls me when I have free minutes?
Do i need that long distance bundle thing added to my plan?
Please help! THanks:)

It only cost you long distance if you are out of your local calling area...Lets say you live in Ontario, if someone (your boyfriend from the states) calls you and your at home, you will NOT be charged long distance...but if you went to British Columbia, and your boyfriend calls you, you will be charged long distance from your home town in Ontario to whereever you are in B.C....When you answer after 7pm (or 5pm whichever you have) it will not cost you anything, not even airtime! You do not need to add a long distance bundle but if you want to you can add the Unlimited North American Long Distance, and that means that you can call him, and you will get charged, airtime (if you call during the day) and nothing if you call when your airtime is free!

Okay thank you very much! Is the text messaging a problem like I hear it is though?
