If you're connected to Wi-Fi then no, you are not charged by the cell phone company.

Having a phone unlocked usually means that you can then use it with a SIM card of another carrier, including overseas if your phone supports the same frequencies.

i was just at koodo and they told me that they are charging for wifi if you dont have a data plan...because the company said they can't tell if its wifi or not...i am not impressed at all...if you have a data plan what do you need wifi for...i thought wifi was free. wouldn't have gone with koodo a month ago if i'd know that...

@unimpressed, koodo has data plans (data flex rate or something like that) for $0. Just activate the service at any Koodo kiosk and then (1) instantly disable the data from mobile network (koodo) in your handset and (2) enable wi-fi in your handset. You will be using wi-fi all the time (where you have access to the wireless router) without being charged by Koodo for data usage.Laugh
