Frustrated emoticon

Got fun custom MSN emoticons that you want to use outside of the MSN environment? You can find them here (well, that’s where they are in Windows XP):

c:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Application Data\Microsoft\MSN Messenger\yourMSNaccountnumber\CustomEmoticons

They have the extension .dat, so just copy them elsewhere and rename them to either .gif or .jpg and you’re good to go.
I would reference the webpage where I found this information, but I don’t actually remember what page it was.

    I am trying to do this, I found a bunch of .dat files in a CustomEmoticons folder and i copied them, put them into a new folder. Now how do I atually rename them? I right clicked them and after the name of the file i just put .jpg is that right? I am really have very limited knowledge of things like this. Help!

    Yup, that’s it! Some might be .gif or .png, but if you’re on a Windows computer, the default “Windows Picture and Fax Viewer” should be able to read image files even if you give them the wrong image extension…

    Another way is to open any folder than go… TOOLS/FOLDER OPTIONS than in the view tab make sure hide extension for known file types is not checked
